Instructor: Maureen Burford, M.Ed.

Join Creative Lives Director Maureen Burford to learn and implement a comprehensive yet efficient system for teaching and reaching the whole child. Discover how this approach has formed the basis for her award-winning work with youth in Vermont and beyond. Parents and educators recognize that our children live in challenging times and must learn to navigate a fast-changing world as they move into adulthood. We want to help our youth tap their full potential to learn, develop their gifts — and lead contributive lives. The question is how. Author Ellen Tadd’s Framework for Wise Education® provides a unique solution. The Framework is based on Tadd’s pioneering observations of the human energy system, or chakra system, and its role in healthy human development. Specifically, the energy system helps children develop agency in cultivating: Inner happiness, enjoyment, and a sense of connection Focus, learning retention, and wise decision-making The building blocks of self-esteem Curiosity to learn and openness to feedback Good intentions for self and others Emotional regulation Creative expression Relationship skills, including the ability to lead/follow, act/wait, give/receive, speak/listen Self-control and resilience The discipline and skills required to actualize potential Tadd’s holistic system includes principles, tools, and strategies that support each of these areas for young people and adults -- and enhance the teaching of any subject. The Foundations 1 course includes access to our online learning platform, accompanying written materials, online discussion forums, and audio/visual resources. Our in-person time together helps you experience and practice precise strategies and tools. Classes are limited to 18 attendees to support optimal learning. This course sets the stage for further training and is a prerequisite for continued study.
