A Framework for Wise Education: Chakras and Holistic Child Development Deb Norris

Special Topics:
Sponsor: Creative Lives
Instructor: Maureen Burford, M.Ed.

Creative Lives Director Maureen Burford leads this nine-week course in Ellen Tadd's holistic approach to teaching and learning: A Framework for Wise Education. The course defines holistic education as an integrated approach to cognitive and character development, physical and emotional well-being, positive relationships, and connection with the natural world. A Framework for Wise Education is based on Tadd's pioneering discoveries about the mind/body system, or chakra system, and its fundamental role in human development. The Framework approach applies these discoveries to support every child's unique potential. From the Instructor: “Ellen Tadd’s Framework for Wise Education belongs front and center in educational practice and parenting. Her premise is simple but profound: the human energy system, or chakra system, offers a natural, complete, and practical framework for raising and teaching children. Tadd’s holistic approach is what we have needed – a timeless, detailed way to help individuals and groups learn and thrive as whole, healthy people. Amid the grave challenges we face around the globe, applying her Framework has given me hope for our collective future.” -Maureen Burford, Executive Director Creative Lives Inc. Course Overview Each week you will discover the meaning of a new chakra center and its role in teaching. Reading assignments, audiovisual resources, partner work, and reflection essays will aid you in understanding this Framework. You will also begin to apply the Framework to your own life and to the lives of the children with whom you educate and serve. The course offers specific new teaching skills, strategies, and understandings that support children to move from challenges or areas of weakness to strengths as follows: Stress and anxiety -- Inspiration and sense of connection Poor focus -- Good concentration and wise decision-making Low-self esteem -- Self-confidence and curiosity to learn Trauma -- Inner calm and enthusiasm to learn and connect Emotional reactivity -- Emotional well-being Lack of emotion -- Empathy and access to feelings Difficulty listening and Disruptive behaviors -- Ability to lead/follow, speak/listen, act/wait Lack of engagement -- Desire and confidence to join in Lack of self-control -- Self-discipline and responsibility
