Activities and Accessibility of Materials in the FCCERS-R March 4, 2021
This training provides an opportunity for a deeper dive into one subscale of the Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale – Revised Edition (FCCERS-R), an observational tool STARS Assessors use for consultation and assessment. During non-COVID-19 times, what learning experiences does your program offer and how often can children access them? Are your materials developmentally appropriate for the various children you teach? The FCCERS-R Activities subscale includes items that address fine motor, art, music and movement, blocks, dramatic play, math/number, nature/science, sand and water play, promoting acceptance of diversity, use of technology, and active physical play. We will consider the scale’s expectation for “many and varied materials” and accessibility for “much of the day” at the “Good” level. Come see examples from high and low-scoring programs; then, celebrate your successes and set a few of your own goals for quality improvement.
