Basic Specialized Care is a six-hour introductory training for early childhood professionals who serve vulnerable children and their families in child care settings. This training is one of the requirements to become a Specialized Child Care Provider in Vermont. Topics covered include: child development, the impact of stress and abuse on development, red flags, working with families and the system, and mandated reporting responsibilities.

The Mandated Reporter training is REQUIRED before taking Basic Specialized Care. The link for the free online Mandated Reporter training can be found here: https://dcf.vermont.gov/cdd/professional-development/requirements. Per CCV Policy, please do not bring children to this training. In order to receive accommodations for disabilities, training participants should communicate with the Northern Lights at CCV Americans with Disabilities Coordinator (http://ccv.edu/discover-resources/students-with-disabilities/) at least two weeks before training begins. Location: CCV Winooski (1 Abenaki Way), Room 401. Parking is available in the Winooski City Parking Garage, one block west of CCV, or in metered spots on the street (cash or credit/debit card, using the kiosk). Please do not park in the CCV Visitor lot or in lots designated for neighboring businesses.
