More than a Basket of Books: Intentional Approaches to Building Language and Literacy Skills with Children Birth to Three June 13, 2019
The development of language and literacy skills begins at birth, through every day responsive interactions. This session will explore how parents, caregivers, and community service providers can make the most of their planned and spontaneous connections with infants and toddlers using free and low cost materials, daily routines, and vocal exchanges. Knowledge gained will help to support young children in their ability to understand and use language in daily life and become self-confident and motivated learners on the pathway to literacy. This workshop will align with the VELS and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework. Participants will play, rhyme, and read, leaving with a song in their heart and toolbox of ideas in their hands.
