Racial and Anti-bias Learning with Young Children Deb Norris September 9, 2024

Rokeby Museum is offering a racial learning and anti-bias training course adapted from the Museum’s popular in-classroom Pre-K program. In our work, we have observed that a common critique of anti-bias professional development opportunities is that learning provides excellent theory but lacks practical application. Likewise, identity and diversity are covered, but learning falls short of tackling injustice, racism, prejudice, and action. This course is designed to help educators feel informed and practiced in their skills so that they can face these topics with confidence.

The course comprises five segments: Learning, Observation, Application, Assessment, and Reflection. During this unique, hands-on course, the course instructor will visit participant classrooms to provide modeling, as well as return later for assessment. The format includes workshop, modeling, curriculum development, one-on-one support, and group learning.

*****The course runs November 2024 - May 2025 starting with a virtual workshop series and ending with a group wrap-up. These are the class dates listed. Additionally, students will schedule individual sessions with their course instructor for class visits, assessment, and check-ins.*****
