Spring/Summer Science, Nature Play and Learning PLC April 2, 2021
Children develop curiosity, wonder, a sense of place, and an appreciation for the earth when they play in nature and with nature. In their nature-based play, children encounter natural phenomena, ask meaningful questions, work collaboratively, solve problems, communicate, and practice science and engineering skills. This Science, Nature-play and Learning PLC will support early childhood professionals as leaders, leverage local resources and community connections, and foster changes in teaching practice. During each session, we will explore, play, and learn in a variety of natural settings. Topics will emerge from the interests and needs of the group, and previous sessions have included: outdoor spaces, adult role, facilitating science learning, effective language and group management, benefits and risks, and establishing outdoor routines.
