TECHNICOOL: Keeping Kids Safe on the Internet September 11, 2020
Adults need information about the multiple kinds of digital risks for children today and practical strategies to keep children safe. Children ages 10-17 experience online sexual solicitation at a rate of 12% for boys and 27% for girls. Most adolescents, 68% in the U.S., have unintentionally encountered pornography online. The prevalence of sexting among youth, sending explicit texts, is 15% and for receiving is 27% (with consent) and 12% and 8% respectively without consent. These numbers are expected to climb during this unprecedented time of access to online technology while children and youth are at home.
