Sponsor: Champlain Valley Head Start
Instructor: Devereux Center for Resilient Children

Building Your Bounce, Building Their Bounce: Promoting Resilience in Infants and Toddlers and the Adults Who Care for Them, presented by the Devereux Center for Resilient Children, and sponsored by Chaplain Valley Head Start: This professional development event will show participants how the science of resilience can be used to combat stress. Participants will learn about the interplay between risk and protective factors, leaving with a stronger understanding of how our healthy relationships, internal beliefs, self-control, and initiative help us overcome risk and adversity. The Devereux Adult Resilience Survey (DARS) will allow participants to reflect on behaviors related to these protective factors so that they can celebrate their existing strengths and set realistic goals for areas that need improvement. Practical, concrete resilience-building strategies for both adults and young children will be shared, with an emphasis on how to embed these strategies into everyday routines in the classroom and at home. Learning Objectives: •Explore the link between adult stress and its potential impact on an adult’s ability to care for children •Complete the Devereux Adult Resilience Survey (DARS), a reflection tool used to examine personal strengths and areas for growth that impact adult resilience •Learn concrete resilience-building strategies that all adults can build into their daily routines •Understand the interplay between risk factors and protective factors which can hinder or support infants and toddlers in developing resilience •Identify behaviors seen in infants and toddlers that can help us understand more about social-emotional functioning and resilience •Learn simple strategies that providers and families can use to support resilience in infants and toddlers
