VELS Overview October 24, 2019
Participants will have the opportunity to use the Vermont Early Learning Standards that are from Birth to Grade Three. The whole group will have the opportunity to spend time with the domain Learning About the World to become more familiar with the content and components. Free online resources will be shared for themselves and families along with videos for individual learning and exploring. Participants will determine what skills are observed in videos and how that relates to VELS. There will be a chance to read, ask questions, connect the VELS with developmentally appropriate practice, and use the intentional use of play to support learning and development. The group will take this information using the VELS to design curriculum and plan effective environments. Small groups will choose a theme or curriculum, choose related activities and use the VELS to plan for the success of each child no matter the age and/or developmental level.
