You Are A Child’s First Teacher – Promoting Literacy Through Play and Everyday Interactions in Children Ages 2-5 Brendan Rooney

Sponsor: Stern Center for Language and Learning
Instructor: Kendra Padilla

In this session, we’ll explore how to naturally and intentionally support early reading development through playful interactions and everyday routines. You’ll learn how to weave in simple, age-appropriate activities that promote letter recognition, sound awareness, and a love of language—all while following a child’s lead and honoring their natural curiosity.

Whether you’re a parent looking to build your child’s literacy foundation at home or an educator wanting new strategies for your classroom, you’ll leave with practical tools, fun ideas, and a deeper understanding of how everyday moments can help set the stage for lifelong reading success.
