Together we will learn the benefits of nature as a tool for developing self-regulation and social-emotional learning, while practicing the beneficial impact nature has on our ability to communicate and connect.
Objectives
In this workshop we will explore:
- research on how the natural world’s impact on children can act as a protective or therapeutic intervention for children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and/or trauma
- how nature engagement can promote multiple aspects of young children’s social-emotional learning (SEL), including social interaction skills, independence, impulse control, management of one’s emotions and problem-solving skills
- resources about how playing with natural materials promotes diverse and enhanced levels of play, which contribute to the cognitive, physical, and creative abilities of children
- ways to decrease stress and increase positive communication with children and families through embodying somatic nature based experiences
