Childcare providers and teachers of infant/toddler and preschool age children will participate in a Vermont Humanities Council sponsored Never too Early: Social and Emotional Learning and Literacy training that provides a set of free books which will be used to address the following learning objectives: 1. Study social and emotional topics that align with the early stages of child development. 2. Learn to identify specific social and/or emotional behavior in children. 3. Design effective strategies to promote social and emotional learning in your program. 4. Recognize social and emotional themes in children’s books to elicit authentic conversation. 5. Plan and practice using books to promote social and emotional learning with children in your care. The above learning objectives will address the following core knowledge areas. Child Development- A) How Children Develop and B) Influences on Child Development How we Teach C) Developmentally Appropriate Teaching What we Teach D) VELS area 2 Communication and Expression There are two two-hour sessions with two hours of independent study between the sessions.
