These free professional development workshops are brought to you by the State of Vermont Child Development Division, in collaboration with Seed & Sew. Included are five workshops, covering topics such as trauma-informed practices, celebrating diversity, language development for English language learners, understanding the nervous system, and supporting children using Children’s Integrated Services. These workshops count toward Advanced Specialized Care Professional Development.

The workshops included on the platform are:

Enhancing Early Language Development for English Language Learners, presented by Angela Garcia, M.A. (Total time: 114 minutes)
This workshop explores the developmental foundations of language acquisition for English Language Learners (ELL) and provides practical tools for educators. Participants will delve into the theory behind early language development, examining research and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) specifically for ELLs. Additionally, the workshop will cover strategies to build trusting relationships with children and families through an equity lens, using the science of connection.

Trauma Informed Classroom Practices, presented by Colleen Wilkinson (Total time: 133 minutes)
Learn more about trauma-informed practices to support all children, specifically diving into those affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). By understanding the impact of trauma on behavior and brain development, participants will gain practical strategies for creating nurturing, inclusive environments that foster resilience and promote well-being.

Embracing Differences (Birth-6 Years), presented by Britt Hawthorne (Total time: 114 minutes)
Explore how to celebrate and embrace diversity within families, helping children recognize and appreciate different family structures from a young age. Participants will learn practical strategies for creating inclusive environments that foster empathy, social understanding, and a sense of belonging in early childhood settings.

Building Bridges: Partnering with Children’s Integrated Services – Early Intervention, presented by Hannah Bloom, MOTR/L (Total time: 124 minutes)
Dive into an overview of early intervention services and how to support young children through positive, collaborative experiences. Participants will learn strategies for working with families and integrating individualized goals into daily practice to enhance children’s development and success.

Understanding the Nervous System to Foster Inclusive Learning Environments, presented by Hannah Bloom, MOTR/L (Total time: 122 minutes)
Explore how the nervous system influences a child’s learning and development and practical strategies to create an inclusive environment for all children. Participants will gain insight into their nervous system, which impacts, guides, and supports children’s growth and development. The workshop will also focus on Universal Design, ensuring that environments and practices are accessible and supportive for all learners, regardless of their abilities, promoting equal participation and success for every child.
