Culturally Responsive Classrooms May 6, 2021
According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) all children have the right to equitable learning opportunities and therefore all childhood educators have a professional obligation to advance equity. Additionally, a culturally responsive classroom environment is one that validates the lived experiences of children and families from diverse backgrounds. A teacher’s beliefs and mindsets about children’s potential are foundational to bolstering positive teacher-child relationships and learning. This training will explore how your own culture impacts your teaching practices and highlights how implicit and explicit biases can affect your teaching methodologies. Specific ways to create a culturally responsive classroom environment are also addressed.
