Following the Hummingbird: Growing Habitat, Connection & Community August 20, 2026
What would be possible - for our children and our communities - if we could see the Americas from the perspective of a ruby-throated hummingbird? In a hands-on workshop, educators at the Storytime Preschool at the Schoolhouse Learning Center in South Burlington and gardeners from City Sprouts will lead a tour of our school pollinator and food forest gardens, share song, a story and resources for working with children and their families to grow habitat along the ruby-throated hummingbird's flyway.
Attendees will be invited to engage in different classroom provocations - game, story, song, and tea-making, as they learn about a new curriculum that teachers at the Storytime Preschool are piloting to share for with area schools with support of the Agency of Agriculture Food and Market's Program’s Child Care Visioning Grant.
Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the ruby-throated hummingbird and their role threading ecosystems of the Americas, seasonal activities to share with children, and some basic resources to start planting a pollinator garden.
