Introduction to Growing Outdoor Classrooms & Design Elements September 11, 2020
Every outdoor classroom is as unique as the program that designs and builds it. This training will define terms related to outdoor classrooms, give an overview of what an outdoor classroom can become, help define key factors in how outdoor classrooms differ from typical playgrounds. Participants will explore the developmental benefits of outdoor classrooms and learn how to communicate these benefits to parents.

All professional development for the remainder of 2020 will be delivered online in response to COVID-19. Protecting the health and safety for all participants as well as the children we serve means that in-person trainings will need to wait until further into the future. Trainings will be offered as “real time online” using Zoom and participants will have access to the Slide Deck via Google Slides. Trainings are approved by Northern Lights and will count as professional development hours in BFIS. For six hour trainings we will utilize the 2+2+2 model. Participants will attend a two hour Zoom session, then a two hour practice component, and then (usually a week later) another 2 hour real time Zoom training. Completion of all three parts will earn 6 hours of Professional Development that will be submitted to Northern Lights/BFIS if you are a Vermont based early childhood educator. Partial credit is NOT offered. Max group size is 25 to allow for engaged participation. Participants are asked to keep their camera on, be able to use their microphone, and are asked to be engaged throughout the time together.
