ITERS-3 Overview September 11, 2020
This is a 4-hour, two part training, which requires attendance on both days (October 6 & 13). Part 1 on October 6: It’s easy to get lost in program quality assessment tools. Subscales, items, indicators – and scores! – seem too rigid for life in a classroom with infants and toddlers. This interactive session helps educators find their way through the Third Edition of the Infant/Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS-3) by highlighting key features. Participants will reflect on their current practices, consider the physical arrangement of their classrooms, and share ideas with one another. Part 2 on October 13: This session continues the introduction to Third Edition of the Infant/Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS-3). For the second part, the focus will be on the ITERS-3 classroom quality marker of 2 play areas and/or 3 interest centers. We’ll review the definitions of “play area” and “interest center,” suggest developmentally appropriate materials, and consider space requirements. Participants will assess example classroom arrangements and discuss what works to engage the infants and toddlers they teach.
