“Literacy & STEAM ~ Ideas to Foster Science Play" Want to be geared up with ideas that will foster play-based learning through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM)? Fall brings so many natural ways to enhance wonder and creativity in children while noticing the changes of late summer to the arrival of winter. In small groups we will develop project-based activity kits that early childhood educators can grab and take outdoors that will inspire your scientists and engineers to try out a variety of play-based learning ideas. Participants will work in small groups and design learning kits in three areas: Squirrels & Acorns, Ramps and Motion and Autumn Naturalists. In this 2+2+2 model, participants will complete a two hour practice component where they assemble a project-based activity kit utilizing materials they already own. After the training, the notes for designing all three play-based learning kits will be shared with the group via email. Learning Objectives: • Define play-based learning and the role of the adult in preparing the environment and supporting the children’s ongoing exploration • Practice developing project-based activity kits with low cost materials
