NTE: Storytelling and Imagination Through Children’s Literature (NEW) Deb Norris

Special Topics:
Sponsor: Vermont Humanities Council
Instructor: Leanne Porter

This NEW Never Too Early course offers early educators an opportunity to learn how to select children's literature, present it in exciting read-alouds, and inspire children to love books. This interactive virtual workshop will explore children's literature through books that enhance read-aloud experiences and those that stimulate children's imaginations. We will discuss how storytelling can be a powerful tool for promoting literacy and discuss the advantages of books without words. Educators will learn how to encourage children to write stories individually and in groups through engaging imaginative activities. Educators will reflect on their own literacy development, how they are role models to children's perceptions of literature and ways they may want to improve their own skills. Many examples of rich literacy environments will be shared. Participants will receive a set of picture books to use with children in their care.
