Step by Step Through the ITERS-3 | Items 13 and 14: Staff Use of Books with Children and Encouraging Children’s Use of Books March 29, 2021
Are you new to the ITERS-3? Have you been using it for a while, but still have questions about certain items in the scale? In this weekly training, we will break down the Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale, Third Edition. The session will cover both Item 13: Staff Use of Books with Children and Item 14: Encouraging Children's Use of Books. Books can be an important tool in building vocabulary and introducing new thoughts and concepts to young children. Books should be accessible to young children for a large portion of their day. In this session we’ll explore some ways that staff can engage children in book usage to build vocabulary and to introduce new ideas. We will also discuss how staff can assist children in using books through the organization of the classroom environment.
