Tips and Tools for Early Childhood Special Educators Deb Norris

Sponsor: Vermont Higher Education Collaborative
Instructor: Judith Masson, M.Ed.

This two-day live virtual workshop series will sharpen your organizational skills and add to your strategy toolbox as we walk through each step of the special education process. We will discuss the daily operations and responsibilities of being a preschool case manager/service provider and brainstorm cost-effective, time-smart approaches. Additionally, each day will include an optional “make and take” session for creating materials that you can start using your next day at work. Participants will be prepared for this by referencing a project list which will be sent ahead of time and will include simple printables and common objects. Workshop #1 - Case Management and Service Delivery. During this workshop, we will explore tips and tools related to: • ECSE evaluation, placement and IEP processes; • Case management responsibilities, such as facilitating meetings, reporting progress, family communication, etc; and • Service delivery models for early childhood special education. Workshop #2 - Lesson Planning, Consultation, and Transitions • Lesson planning, data collection, and evidence-informed programming decisions; • Paraprofessional supports and consultation; and • Transitions into ECSE, as well as kindergarten.
