We All Belong! Advancing Diversity Through Inclusive Environments and Children’s Literature August 30, 2023
This collaborative workshop will focus on how to create environments that promote belonging and inclusion as well as how to then apply those practices to successfully facilitating a read-aloud and discussion addressing diversity. As an early childhood special educator I have vast experience and expertise in designing and implementing inclusive spaces through the principles of Universal Design for Learning. I also am extremely passionate about teaching young children about diversity; ultimately how to respectfully acknowledge and respect the differences that make us all unique and important. For teaching young children about diversity we will explore the restorative practices model. This includes facilitating a constructive conversation asking guiding questions about the book in relation to the children to explore the diversity topic. In this collaborative workshop you will: Learn how to create and implement inclusive environments using Universal Design for Learning. Learn about the importance of providing a sense of belonging. Learn how to facilitate a restorative practice meeting to teach young children about diversity. Create and present a restorative practice circle on a children's book addressing diversity. Gain numerous resources and tools to support applying this workshop in your practice.

This PD event was initially designed for Vermont Early Childhood Network (VECN) members. However, while space allows, we have opened it up to the general early childhood community. Once we reach capacity, we will begin a waitlist. If you register and can't attend - let us know so we can reach out to the waitlist.
